What Are Dental Implants Made Of?
Dental implants are made of titanium or zirconia because they’re durable, stable, and long-lasting. Plus, they help promote jawbone health and look natural. The crown of the implant is typically made of porcelain. What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are used to replace a single tooth or a full mouth of teeth. They consist of three parts.- Post: this is the part of the implant that is surgically screwed into your jawbone. It acts as the “root” of your tooth. As you heal, your jawbone and implant will grow together. This is called, “osseointegration.”
- Abutment: after osseointegration, a connector called an abutment is placed on top of the dental implant. In since instances, your dentist may place the abutment at the same time you have your implant surgery.
- Crown: the crown is the artificial tooth that attaches to the abutment. Your dentist will take impressions of your natural teeth when custom designing your crowns to ensure they blend seamlessly.
